Ippudo Opens at Mega Fashion Hall

Ippudo, Japan's well-loved ramen chain for nearly three decades, opens its doors to Filipino ramen lovers in Metro Manila. Its very first store in the Philippines welcomes diners on September 10, 2014 at the third level of Mega Fashion Hall, Metro Manila's newest upscale shopping destination.

No less than Ippudo founder and Japan's acknowledged Ramen King, Shigemi Kawahara, joined the power couple behind Ippudo Philippines, John and Peachy Concepcion, last September 6 to welcome the press and other guests at the Private Tasting event for the new restaurant.

Kawahara is best known for the delicate, creamy version of Hakata-style, tonkotsu (pork-based) ramen that has become the trademark of Ippudo restaurants all over Japan and key cities around the world. Aside from over 80 stores in Japan, there are Ippudo restaurants in Singapore, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Seoul, Shanghai, Sydney, Taipei, Bangkok, London, and New York.

So what can Filipino ramen aficionados expect from Ippudo Philippines?

A unique and complete dining experience, that's for sure, and, of course, Ippudo's famous signature ramen dishes - Shiromaru Classic, Akamaru Shinaji, and Karaka-men, which was what I had during the event. I love its spicy and garlicky flavor! And it goes so well with Ippudo's side dishes, too, of which, Nicco and I agreed, the Curry Cheese Harumaki was a definite favorite.

We also loved the Pork Buns, which is also John Concepcion's personal favorite, and the Dashimaki Tamago, a simple egg dish served with a sauce made of fish roe and Japanese mayonnaise.

Diners will also enjoy the Goma Q, sliced cucumbers topped with spices, and the Hakata-Style Gyoza, a classic Japanese side dish.

Bring your family and friends to Ippudo! They're open daily from 10:00 a.m to 10:00 p.m.
It's definitely ramen heaven and much, much more!
